The Ahr Valley is one of the regions in Germany most affected by the floods. The flood disaster destroyed numerous homes and roads, and left behind large amounts of trash and debris. In the midst of this chaos, an educational project called “Recycling Roadies – CleanUp after the Flood” is launching. The aim of the project is to teach students and young people in the region about the importance of recycling and environmental protection.
The Recycling Roadies are a team of environmentalists equipped with a mobile lab to reach out to students and youth in the Ahr Valley region. Recycling Roadies conduct workshops and demonstrations on recycling, waste prevention and environmental protection. Working with local schools and communities, students will learn how to separate, reuse and recycle waste in a fun way.
The launch of the project is an important step in the recovery of the flood-damaged region. It is designed to help minimize environmental impact and give students and youth an understanding of the impact of human activities on nature. The Recycling Roadies – CleanUp after the Flood project shows that every individual can help improve the environment through their actions.
Educational project in the Ahr Valley: “Recycling Roadies – CleanUp after the Flood” started
As a result of the flood disaster in the Ahr Valley, a working group of the community organized an educational project called “Recycling Roadies – CleanUp after the Flood. The goal of the project is to educate students from elementary and high schools in the Ahr Valley about the importance of recycling and waste separation, while raising awareness about protecting the environment.

The project’s activities are varied and span several months. Students are first encouraged to collect trash and separate it in their community. Special bins will be set up and the students will be divided into groups to sort the garbage properly. Afterwards there will be a workshop about recycling.
- The students will learn how to make new, creative products from old materials.
- They are also invited to participate in a competition that awards prizes for the most original and innovative recycled products.
- In addition, students visit a waste recycling facility to see how trash is processed in their community.
The “Recycling Roadies – CleanUp after the Flood” education project is a good example of how schools and communities can work together to provide sustainable environmental education. By raising students’ awareness of environmental issues, they can actively participate in improving the environment.
